Battery-Operated Firex® Carbon Monoxide Alarm Introduced
Carol Stream, Illinois, USA — July 16, 2004 —
Invensys Climate Controls today introduced a new battery-operated Firex® carbon monoxide (CO) alarm for residential use.
The Firex model 6060
CO alarm is designed to operate for five years on a single set of batteries, an
important advantage for consumers.
“As homeowners face increased risks from CO
poisoning during a power outage, we believe a battery operated CO alarm is an
important safety product,” said Andy Crnkovich, General Manager of Global Safety Products for Invensys Climate Controls.
The new unit includes features residential users
desire: a quiet button to temporarily silence the 85-decibel horn, quick access to replace batteries, a large test and
reset button, and easy mounting. This new unit can either be wall mounted or
stand on a desk or bookshelf.
“With more and more consumers becoming aware of
the dangers of CO, they are looking for a do-it-yourself solution for CO
protection,” said Crnkovich. “Firex, the brand preferred by professional
contractors, is responding to that demand by bringing to the market a
professional-grade battery-operated CO alarm that is easy to install and easy
to use.”
Several states
require CO alarms including New Jersey, Alaska and parts of Ohio, North
Carolina, Texas and Illinois as well as Canada. Legislation requiring CO alarms
in residential buildings, schools and hospitals will go into effect
in New York City in November, and statewide legislation is pending. The Firex
6060 meets requirements for use in the United States and Canada.
The new unit joins
the Firex® CO alarm product line, which includes the Firex 7000 Combo, a combination smoke and CO alarm
available in battery-operated and 120V AC with battery backup versions; the
6085, a 120V AC direct wire unit; the 6045, a 120V AC direct wire with battery
backup model; and the 6030 and 6080, which are 120V AC power models with
rotatable plugs for outlet installations.
