Invensys Controls Introduces Advanced Carbon Monoxide Sensing Technology

New Firex® 10000 Series features Monox™ Sensor with True-Test™ Sensor Diagnostics

Firex 10000 Series

Carol Stream, Illinois, USA - April 11, 2005 - Invensys Controls today introduced a new line of Firex® carbon monoxide (CO) alarms featuring the industry's first true gas-sensor testing feature and new advanced electrochemical sensing technology.

The Monox™ Sensor with True-Test™ Sensor Diagnostics provides a higher level of protection due to its unique self-testing capability, which verifies that the carbon monoxide sensor is working properly and warns when the sensor is nearing the end of its service life.

The new models in the Firex 10000 Series also provide superior performance in high-humidity conditions and operate for more than a year on a single battery, an important feature for homeowners in the event of a power outage.

Designed in a round shape with a smaller, five-inch profile, the new CO alarms can be surface mounted using the standard Firex smoke alarm brackets, making installation easy for contractors and more aesthetically appealing for homeowners. The Firex 10000 Series also features a front door battery compartment with a battery pull-tab.

Key features include:

• True Gas Testing – This alarm performs a silent internal system test about once a month by generating a very small and harmless amount of hydrogen gas to verify sensor operation. Traditional CO alarms test the sensor by simulating an alarm condition electrically.

• Monthly Self-Test – The alarm performs a silent internal system test to verify sensor operation.

• Alarm Controlled Interconnect Test – In an interconnected system, this feature will alarm the local unit first, then quiet the local unit while the remote units alarm.

• Quick QuietTM CO Reset – This feature quiets unwanted carbon monoxide alarms for up to six minutes.

• Smart QuietTM Trigger Alarm Locator – By pushing the smart button, a homeowner can quiet all alarms except the one that triggered the alarm.

• Smart QuietTM Low Battery Silencer– Users may silence the low battery alert for up to 10 hours by pressing and releasing the smart button, allowing time for the homeowner to obtain a replacement battery.

• Latching LED Alarm Indicator After a carbon monoxide alarm sounds, the single red light on the triggering alarm blinks until reset.

These new alarms interconnect with Firex smoke alarms, heat alarms and carbon monoxide alarms, and are compatible with other contractor-preferred Firex products. Model 10000, a 120 Volt AC/DC model with a 9 Volt battery backup, will be available in the United States.

CO Marketing Growing

The market for CO detectors presents a growing opportunity for Firex, the top-selling brand of smoke detectors among electrical contractors. Many states require CO detectors in single and multi-family residences. Among the states mandating CO alarms are New Jersey and Alaska; parts of New York, Ohio, North Carolina, Texas and Illinois; as well as Canada.

Invensys acquired Monox Ltd., a proprietary sensor business, from Scipher plc, in July 2004, to bring advanced carbon monoxide sensing technologies to its Firex-brand safety business.
