Select The Paragon Time Control For You
Do you know which Paragon product you want to view?

It's easy to choose the Paragon time control that's appropriate for your application. Use the tips below to help you choose the timer that is most compatible with your scheduling requirements, electrical infrastructure, and environmental conditions.

Q. Does your application need to be controlled for the same schedule every day of the week?

A. If so, you should consider choosing a Paragon traditional 24-hour timer.

Q. Does your application need to function at different times each day of the week?

A. If so, our 7-day Double Duty Timers may be best for you.

Q. Does your application need to work differently on holidays?

A. If so, select a Tri-Timer or Quad Control time control with holiday programming.

Q. Do you need activation based on sunrise and sunset cycles?

A. If so, any Paragon control with the AstroDial SunTracker™ feature may be the timer for you. These units automatically turn ON and OFF based on changing sunrise and sunset times throughout the year. You will find time controls with this feature in our Quad Controls and AstroDial SunTracker™ sections.

Q. What voltage should I select?

A. If you're placing your Paragon time control in an existing structure, choose the voltage that matches your electrical current. In new construction situations, ask your contractor what voltage electrical line is being installed. Then purchase a Paragon time control that is the same voltage.

Q. How many events will my application require?

A. Events are the total number of times the switch turns ON and OFF during a given time period. For example, a 24-hour timer with 48 ON/OFF events is able to turn ON 24 times and OFF 24 times during the day. The number of ON/OFF events described in this catalog refers to the maximum number of times the control can be activated for a given time period. You can set your Paragon timer from 1 ON/OFF event up to the maximum given to meet your switching needs.

Q. What switch rating should I order?

A. Choose the one that fits your switch type and load. Paragon time controls are available in single pole double throw (SPDT), single pole single throw (SPST) and double pole single throw (DPST) switch types.

Q. What is the minimum and maximum time required for your application?

A. Many Paragon controls have a minimum and maximum time range in which ON/OFF events can be activated. You should select a timer that suits your ON/OFF schedule. Momentary intervals are available on many Paragon timers as well. For more information on momentary intervals, please see Learn About Momentary, Duration, and Duty Cycle Features.

Q. How do I determine what enclosure or mounting type I need?

A. Paragon time controls are available in 3 enclosure styles and 3 mounting types. Determine whether the time control will be placed inside and what kind of enclosure or mounting is required.

The following enclosure types are available:

• NEMA 1 drawn steel for indoor use
• NEMA 3 drawn steel for indoor or outdoor use
• NEMA 3R non-metallic for indoor or outdoor use
• NEMA 4X non-metallic for indoor and outdoor use

These mounting options available to you:

• Dinrail
• Bracket for panel mount
• Single-gang box wall mount

Q. How do I know that Paragon time controls are high quality?

A. In the United States, all Paragon time controls are inspected and approved by UL, an independent testing agency, before they are ever placed on the market. In Canada, they are approved by the independent testing agencies CSA and ULC to ensure you receive the finest time control available.

The Paragon story spans the century. Our innovative products have stood the test of time. The pioneering spirit has always guided us—and it’s what drives Paragon today. As the decades have changed, we have adapted. Paragon has long identified needs in the marketplace and engineered technology for diverse applications. We’ve come far but never waivered from our commitment to provide the most advanced technology and finest craftsmanship to our customers.

Established in 1903, Paragon sold electrical and telephone specialties, then began manufacturing hand-wound time switches. Power companies purchased time switches to control generators. Cities used them to control street lights. Electrical signs with time switches became popular. As demand for time switches grew, so did Paragon. Prior to the Depression, Paragon introduced an electrically-driven time switch. The country rebounded, and in 1932, Paragon developed the first synchronous motor time switch controlled with the accuracy and convenience of an electrical clock.

During World War II, Paragon contributed to the war effort. Our timers and switchers were placed in submarines, small naval vessels and mine sweepers. In 1948, Paragon began the task of building for peace. During the next 20 years, our consumer and commercial product lines diversified and expanded. Energy management led to the development of controls for HVAC and electronic lighting and the creation of the microprocessor changed time switches forever. For the next 3 decades, Paragon minds and the microprocessor proved to be a powerful combination.

We remain a leader in time and energy controls. You can rely on Paragon to provide the technology you need now and in the future. The Paragon name has long been trusted by diverse industries and our products used for varied applications. When you purchase a Paragon product, you get a century of innovation and experience behind it.
